Our Story

"Our children are loved and cared for as if they were our own. We teach them to be proud of themselves and to respect others.

Be a wise parent and let each step of our academic program be an exciting learning experience that builds security in your child now and in the future."

-Alvalois Taylor, founder of Taylor-Tot Playhouse

In 1950 Mrs. Taylor began her career in education when she provided her neighbors with day care services out of her own home on Potomac Avenue. She made it her goal to provide a solid learning foundation for each child, teaching self-respect, respect for others and developing strong work habits.

In 1965 she opened Taylor-Tot Playhouse on Cochran Avenue, where the innovative educational program she developed, is still serving the needs of children from Preschool through kindergarten.

"Taylor-Tot Playhouse was an idea, a dream and an ambition from childhood, that came true through years of study, hard work and determination."
